Bogotá, December 5, 2024 – In its eighth edition, the CaMiNA Award 2024, organized by the Embassy of Belgium, the Embassy of Canada, Gran Tierra Energy, and the Colombian Campaign Against Landmines, was awarded to the Association of Veteran Survivors of the Armed Conflict of Cauca “Path of Peace” AMSCA and the distinguished leader Guillermo Murcia Duarte. These awards recognize the commitment to victims and survivors of landmines and other explosive devices, as well as their work for peace, reconciliation, and comprehensive reparation in regions affected by these instruments.
The Association of Veteran Survivors of the Armed Conflict of Cauca “Path of Peace” was recognized in the associative recognition category for its tireless work in supporting and rehabilitating disabled military veteran survivors in the department of Cauca. This organization has diligently worked on physical and psychological rehabilitation processes, in addition to providing support to the families of the survivors.
Guillermo Murcia Duarte received the award in the individual recognition category, a first for this category in the CaMiNA awards. Guillermo is a leader from Arauca who has dedicated his life to highlighting the barriers faced by landmine survivors in accessing their rights, he also works tirelessly to reduce these barriers and promote greater social inclusion.
During the award ceremony, the commitment of the awardees to transforming their communities, promoting the rights of victims, and driving reparation processes was highlighted. These efforts are vital in the post-peace agreement context in Colombia, which continues to face significant challenges.
The CaMiNA Award 2024 represents a tribute and recognition, as well as a commitment to promoting stories of hope, resilience, and transformation amid the difficulties still generated by the Colombian armed conflict. This year, the Awards focused on the importance of putting people first in all actions aimed at reparation and peace.
